Dear friends and partners,

This coming weekend is Easter – a time of year that for many around the world signifies new beginnings – a new chance at life. For others it signifies the season of spring – again a time of new beginnings, of cleaning the house and watching nature spring forth with new growth.

For many children a new school – a chance at education signifies a new life; a new beginning. Over the past few years, Tabitha Cambodia has built 76 schools through the generosity of some of our donors. For the children that attend the schools, it is excitement beyond words. How can we forget the intensity of a 16 year old sitting in the first grade – struggling to control the pencil he had in his hand – he was oblivious to everyone around him – even myself – he was totally absorbed in making marks that meant new life to him.

Or the young 7 year old girl who was excited that a new school was being built – yet very sad that she could not attend because there still was not enough space despite the 9 rooms being built – the donors could not keep tears from their eyes and committed to another 6 rooms – a chance at a new beginning for a young girl who hungered for a new chance – a new life.

Not every child has this chance simply because there are not enough schools – simply because with the advent of peace and security in this land of sorrows – new life through new children is the celebration of peace and hope.

We are so very grateful for the generosity of all of you who stand with us – yet we are also confronted with the needs and desires of so many of these young people – a chance at a new life – a chance to decipher a written page; a chance to discover the mystery of maths and sciences; a chance to learn of other countries, different ways of thinking; of reading books that tell of history.

Very few of us can afford to donate a whole six room school – the cost is $55,000.00 USD – but we believe that together this could happen. So Tabitha Cambodia has a new beginning – a school pot - anyone who wishes can donate to this pot – when we reach our goal – the school will be built and it will be named “The Friends of Cambodia School”.

I thank my God for this gift of Easter, the gift of new beginnings, the gift of hope. I thank my God for each of you who bring these new beginnings to so many in Cambodia. May the hope and joy of new beginnings bring each of you the blessings you have given to so many here. How good that is!

Janne
